Burnley, away, 26th Dec 2014, KO 1500 UK 2 years 7 months ago #226

Liverpool’s final away game of 2014 is a trip to Turf Moor where Sean Dyche’s Burnley await on Boxing Day; 3pm kick off UK time. Our away record in the Premier League this season reads won three, drawn none and lost five, with 12 goals scored and 16 conceded and just the solitary clean sheet. For the calendar year it’s a more impressive ten wins, two draws and five defeats, with 41 goals scored and 31 conceded, with three clean sheets.

Our last two performances give us some hope that we are returning to the kind of football that brought us that incredible 11 game winning streak from last season. While it’s unlikely that we will string together another 11 wins in a row, if we continue to play the kind of football that we did against Bournemouth and Arsenal on a more consistent basis, we will surely begin to climb our way back up the table and put some pressure on the teams above us. We secured a brace of 4-0 wins over Burnley during the 2009/1o season with Steven Gerrard (2), Maxi and Babel sealing Burnley’s relegation at Turf Moor.

Burnley have won just three games in the league all season (1-0 against Hull at home, 2-1 against Stoke away and 1-0 against Southampton at home) which is why they are currently in the relegation zone. Their goal difference of -14 is the joint worst in the division and their tally of seven goals scored at home is the joint lowest in the league shared with Aston Villa, although they have only failed to scored in two of their nine games played at Turf Moor in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool’s total of 16 goals conceded on their travels is the second most in the league – only Queens Park Rangers with 20 have conceded more away from home – while we’ve failed to find the back of the next on two occasions away from Anfield. Our solitary clean sheet away from home came in the 3-0 win against Spurs back at the end of August. It’s the only clean sheet we’ve kept on our travels in 12 games in all competitions, with a grand total of four cleans sheets from 26 games played across three different competitions. It’s a damning statistic that surely needs to be improved upon if we harbour ambitions of being a competitive side in the future.

I guess we might need Gerrard to be benched for this game. Give him some rest. He needs it more than he thinks.

Jones

Skrtel-Sakho-Toure

Henderson-Lucas-Can-Markovic

Lallana-Sterling-Coutinho

Use Balotelli as a super Sub.

I guess that would be my line up.
